David Cates Selected to 2023 Illinois Super Lawyers List

The Cates Law firm is pleased to announce that founding principal David Cates has been selected to the 2023 Super Lawyers list for the state of Illinois. This is David’s second year in a row being selected to the Super Lawyers list, after being recognized on the Illinois Rising Stars list from 2013 to 2021.

David is a renowned trial attorney who has dedicated his career to representing injured parties in nationally-recognized complex personal injury cases, including class actions and mass torts lawsuits. He has been honored among his peers as a member of the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 100 Trial Lawyers since 2014. David was part of the trial team that won a record-breaking $95 million dollar verdict on behalf of his client, a female employee, for corporate discrimination. In addition, David has litigated numerous cases against well-known large corporations, securing millions of dollars in awards for his clients.

After receiving his J.D. from Loyola School of Law, David worked with his mother, Judy Cates, who now serves as a Justice on the Fifth District Appellate Court of Illinois. He later became a partner in the Cates Law Firm and eventually took over the firm, which continues to advocate for workers and their families, in addition to handling personal injury matters. A strong proponent of union rights, David works vigorously to protect the rights of individuals and families who have experienced deception and fraud due to corporate greed.

Super Lawyers uses a multi-phase selection process in compiling its annual lists that involves a combination of peer recognition, professional achievements, and independent research.
